Much has transpired over the last few days. Desiree is now stable and out of intensive care. She has suffered a severe stroke. In the last 4 days she has had 2 MRI’s and 2 CT Scans. What they have shown is that she has had a piece of plaque dislodge from the inside of her carotid artery and itĀ started to travel up to her brain. Along the way it blocked off the capillaries that fed blood to the right side of her brain. As these were blocked off, parts of her brain were starved of oxygen and began to die. It is too early to tell what damage has occurred, but at this stage she looks to be completely paralysed on her left side. She has no movement or feelingĀ in either her left arm or left leg. She does however know that she is in Royal Melbourne Hospital and she can communicate. The doctors have told me that the next few days will be critical as her brain will start to lose some of the swelling and blood will begin to flow more steadily. This apparently is the most dangerous period of a stroke. They suggested that if I am a religious person now is the time to pray.
